HARVEY K. FLAD
Harvey K. Flad is Emeritus Professor of Geography at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY where he has taught since 1972. Dr. Flad’s scholarship has focused on cultural and historic landscapes, conservation history, and environmental and urban planning in America. He has published numerous articles on 19th century landscape design theory and practice, especially on the work of pioneer landscape designer Andrew Jackson Downing. His research and planning efforts have included historic and open space preservation, small town and urban waterfront revitalization, urban history, and the social and spatial components of place. He has done research and lectured internationally, and is the recipient of a Fulbright award and the Russel Wright award for environmental preservation.
